US President Donald Trump has warned Iran’s leadership against using violent measures to suppress ongoing protests. The caution comes amid escalating tensions as Iran has threatened potential attacks on US military bases. Israel, meanwhile, has put its forces on high alert due to concerns over the unrest in Iran.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf delivered a stern warning to the United States during a session broadcast on state television. He declared that Tehran would respond immediately to any attack, while lawmakers in the chamber expressed their anger with chants of “Death to America!”
The warning follows Trump’s public statements supporting the protesters, who have been demonstrating against the Iranian regime for more than two weeks. On social media, the US President emphasized that Iran was “looking at freedom, perhaps like never before,” and said the United States stood ready to assist.
Trump has emphasized that Iran’s leaders should avoid harsh crackdowns, warning that any violent response could prompt a strong reaction from the US. The White House has confirmed it is monitoring the situation closely but has not indicated any plans for military intervention.
The protests, which have drawn large crowds in Tehran and other cities, have reportedly turned deadly. Activist groups claim that at least 116 people have died as security forces clash with demonstrators, underscoring the severity of the unrest.
