Concerns about Donald Trump’s health are resurfacing after a prominent psychiatrist warned that there are two major red flags the public should not ignore.
A growing number of medical experts and observers are questioning whether the former president is experiencing cognitive decline, especially after his repeated public boasts about passing cognitive tests. Late last year, Trump again claimed on Truth Social that he had “aced” another cognitive exam but according to specialists, that claim may actually raise more concern than reassurance.
Trump first took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in 2018 and reportedly scored a perfect 30/30. He repeated the same test in April 2025 and then again just six months later in October 2025. While Trump and his physicians insist these results prove he is in excellent mental condition, experts argue that the frequency of these tests tells a very different story.
Speaking publicly, psychiatrist Dr. John Gartner explained that there are two issues that stand out. The first is that Trump has taken the MoCA multiple times in a relatively short period. The second is Trump’s admission that he has undergone additional cognitive tests beyond the MoCA.
According to Dr. Gartner, repeated cognitive testing is not routine. The MoCA is typically used either as a one-time screening tool for older adults or as a monitoring tool when doctors suspect early dementia or cognitive deterioration.
“No one repeatedly takes the MoCA unless doctors are tracking potential cognitive problems,” Gartner noted. He emphasized that administering the same test again just six months later strongly suggests physicians observed something concerning that required follow-up.
In other words, while Trump frames these tests as proof of mental strength, medical professionals interpret them as evidence of ongoing monitoring, not celebration.
Dr. Gartner further warned that cognitive decline at the presidential level carries serious risks. He argued that Trump’s behavior already reflects confusion, impulsivity, and a lack of internal restraint a dangerous combination when paired with unchecked authority.
“He has no one truly controlling him,” Gartner said, adding that cognitive confusion can lead to actions that are not only reckless, but irrational and unpredictable. According to him, it doesn’t require medical training to notice Trump’s visible mental and physical deterioration over time.
Despite mounting concerns, Trump has aggressively dismissed all criticism. He has repeatedly claimed he is in “perfect” condition and even released selective medical results, asserting that doctors had “never seen results this good.” When major media outlets questioned his health, Trump responded with fury, accusing journalists of treason and claiming any scrutiny of his condition was a political attack.
However, for many Americans particularly those alarmed by authoritarian tendencies and declining democratic norms these health questions are not about partisanship. They are about fitness for power, transparency, and public safety.
When medical experts themselves say repeated cognitive testing is a warning sign, it becomes harder to dismiss the issue as “fake news.” The real concern isn’t whether Trump can pass a memorization test it’s whether he can be trusted with immense power while showing signs of decline, denial, and instability.
In a democracy, questioning a leader’s health is not treason. It’s responsibility.
