Some Fox News viewers reacted angrily after the network abruptly cut away from live coverage to air President Donald Trump’s speech on rural healthcare. The interruption came at a time when tensions were already high due to ongoing protests in Minnesota linked to immigration enforcement.
The backlash centered on events unfolding in Minneapolis, where public outrage intensified following the fatal shooting of Renene Nicole Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. Protests escalated after videos began circulating online that showed a tense encounter at an intersection. In the footage, two ICE agents are seen ordering a woman to exit her vehicle, which was blocking traffic. As she attempted to reverse and turn away, a third agent arrived and opened fire. Multiple gunshots can be heard in videos shared widely on social media.
Against this backdrop, many viewers felt Fox News’ decision to pause coverage and switch to Trump’s healthcare remarks was deeply out of touch. Social media quickly filled with criticism from frustrated audiences.
One viewer wrote, “Meanwhile, Minneapolis burns down,” suggesting the network was ignoring urgent events on the ground. Another commented, “With everything going on right now, this is what they think matters?” A third viewer remarked that the president appeared “completely isolated from the daily lives of people in the United States.”
Despite the wave of criticism, not everyone was unhappy. At least one supporter defended Trump, writing that he is “historic” and will be discussed for decades because of how he is reshaping America and its role in the world.
The mixed reaction highlighted a broader divide in how Americans view both the media’s priorities and the former president’s focus, especially during moments of national unrest.
