The documentary about First Lady Melania Trump is set to arrive on Prime Video, offering audiences an intimate look at her life. Directed by X-Men filmmaker Brett Ratner, the film simply titled Melania follows the First Lady during a pivotal 20-day period leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration, marking her as the only First Lady to serve two non-consecutive terms alongside her husband.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, former President Donald Trump shared his impressions of the documentary. “I’ve seen pieces of it. It’s incredible, I tell you. She did a book that became a number one bestseller, and this is a movie it’s captivating a lot of people’s attention,” he said. While he did not confirm his own attendance at the premiere, he mentioned that tickets are highly sought after, noting that celebrities like former ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky and his wife expressed interest in attending.
The screening is scheduled to take place at the newly renamed Trump Kennedy Centre, though the exact date has not yet been announced. Following its theatrical release, the documentary will stream on Prime Video starting January 20, reportedly after the platform paid $40 million to secure licensing rights.
Melania Trump herself described the film as an unprecedented glimpse into her life. “History is set in motion during the 20 days before the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. For the first time, global audiences can witness this pivotal chapter a private, unfiltered look as I navigate family, business, and philanthropy on my journey to becoming First Lady of the United States,” she said in an interview with Fox News. She emphasized that the story had never been told before and that the documentary was produced to the highest cinematic standards, suitable for theatres worldwide.
The project also marks a return for director Brett Ratner, who has not released a film since 2017 following allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied. Despite the controversy, lobbying from Trump has reportedly helped Ratner re-enter the industry, with a fourth installment of his Rush Hour franchise now in development, to be distributed by Paramount.
Melania promises to offer viewers both a behind-the-scenes perspective on the First Lady’s role and a cinematic account of a historically unique period in American political life.
