Zelensky's 3-word whispered 'stab' at Trump spotted by lip reader at Downing Street

Zelensky Shares Emotional Moment with Keir Starmer Amid Ukraine Crisis, While Trump Signals Waning Interest

During a high-profile meeting at Downing Street on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared visibly emotional while greeting UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, according to professional lip reader Nicola Hickling. The leaders, joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, met to discuss ongoing efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

As Zelensky and Starmer exchanged a brief embrace followed by a handshake, Hickling noted that Zelensky seemed deeply moved. Starmer’s response, as interpreted through lip reading, was: “We will get to the bottom of it at this meeting. I think it’s very important.” Zelensky allegedly replied, “Unlike in Washington,” potentially referencing prior interactions with former U.S. President Donald Trump, whose relationship with Zelensky has been notably strained. The conversation concluded with Starmer reassuring, “We’ll get a result,” and Zelensky adding, “Let’s hope so.”

Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing, “If there is to be a ceasefire, then it needs to be a just and lasting ceasefire; that is why it is so important we repeatedly set out the principle that matters about Ukraine are for Ukraine. We stand here to support you in the conflict and support you in the negotiations.”

Meanwhile, former President Trump’s approach to the Ukraine conflict appears less engaged. Speaking at the Doha Forum 2025, Donald Trump Jr. suggested that his father may step back from involvement, prioritizing domestic issues like the fight against drug cartels. He described Ukraine as “a far more corrupt country than Russia” and labeled Zelensky “one of the great marketeers of all time,” claiming he is viewed almost like “a borderline deity, especially to the left.” Trump Jr. also hinted that the American public is losing interest in continued funding of Ukraine’s military efforts.

This contrast highlights the differing international stances: while leaders like Starmer, Macron, and Merz reinforce support for Ukraine, Trump’s position signals unpredictability and a shift toward prioritizing domestic concerns over international conflict resolution.
