Donald Trump has sparked outrage across Hollywood and political circles following a highly controversial post on his Truth Social account regarding the deaths of Robert Reiner and his wife Michele. The legendary 78-year-old actor and director and his 68-year-old wife were found dead at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday. Their 32-year-old son Nick has since been arrested, and police investigations are ongoing.
While many public figures paid tribute to the Reiners’ lives and legacy, Trump’s remarks drew intense criticism. In his post, he described Robert Reiner as “tortured and struggling” and suggested that his death was linked to what he called a “mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME,” implying that Reiner’s opposition to him contributed to the tragedy. He also praised his own achievements in contrast to Reiner’s alleged “raging obsession” and “obvious paranoia.”
The post quickly ignited a firestorm on social media, with celebrities and the public condemning Trump’s comments. The activist group CALL TO ACTIVISM labeled the post “disgusting” and accused Trump of “celebrating Rob Reiner’s murder,” while Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said, “He’s just lost it. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick.”
Hollywood voices also expressed their outrage. Actor Josh Grad wrote, “There is no low that is too low for this psychopath. Rob Reiner was a thousand times the man you are, and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people.” Mia Farrow added, “Rob Reiner will be remembered for his incredible films, kindness, and love for his country. Trump will be remembered for greed, selfishness, cruelty, and trying to destroy the best of America.”
This controversy highlights how Trump continues to provoke strong reactions, with both public figures and ordinary citizens criticizing his disregard for the victims’ legacy and the dignity of their memory.
