Piers Morgan orders Donald Trump to remove 'dreadful' post about Rob Reiner's death

In an extraordinary and widely condemned post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump linked the tragic deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer to what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).

Just hours after news broke that the 78-year-old director and his 68-year-old wife were found dead in their Los Angeles home, Trump described Reiner’s death as “very sad” but quickly turned the statement into a controversial tirade. In his post, Trump claimed the couple’s deaths were “reportedly due to the anger he caused others” through Reiner’s supposed obsession with the former president.

Trump’s full statement read in part:

"A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME..."

The post immediately sparked outrage. Television personality Piers Morgan publicly called on Trump to remove the statement, describing it as “dreadful” and inappropriate given the circumstances. Morgan added: “This is a dreadful thing to say about a man who just got murdered by his troubled son. Delete it, Mr. President.”

Many social media users, including some Trump supporters, criticized the former president’s comments as deeply insensitive. One wrote, “I am a big-time Trump supporter, and I agree with you, Piers. It’s not the time or place for that.” Another added, “I couldn’t imagine being the type of human to even think like this when someone passes. Heartbreaking to say the least.”

Reiner and his wife were reportedly stabbed to death in their California mansion. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and is being held on $4 million bail at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Centre.

Rob Reiner, renowned for directing classic films such as Stand By Me and This Is Spinal Tap, leaves behind a lasting legacy in Hollywood.
