A brief moment during a recent live Oval Office broadcast has sparked a broader conversation about Donald Trump’s health not because of partisan spin, but due to visible behavior that caught the attention of medical professionals and journalists alike.
During a CNN segment, anchor Jake Tapper paused regular programming to discuss footage showing the president appearing drowsy, with heavy eyelids and what some viewers described as facial drooping. Tapper raised the issue directly with Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a cardiologist who has previously commented on public health issues involving national leaders.
Tapper noted that this wasn’t an isolated incident. In the video shown on air, Trump appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open during a White House event. According to Tapper, similar moments have occurred multiple times in recent weeks.
Dr. Reiner explained that the behavior could indicate what doctors call excessive daytime sleepiness, a symptom that can have many possible causes. One common explanation, he said, is sleep apnea a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, preventing restorative rest. Reiner emphasized that he was not diagnosing the president, only outlining medically recognized possibilities.
He added that untreated sleep apnea is often managed with devices like CPAP machines, but stressed that the public has never been informed that Trump has such a condition.
What further concerned Reiner was the sharp contrast in Trump’s behavior. He pointed to instances where the president appeared nearly asleep during meetings, followed by unusually fast-paced, high-energy speeches delivered shortly afterward.
According to Reiner, neither supporters nor critics should feel comfortable seeing such extremes. “The president of the United States should be well,” he said, noting that visible signs like persistent bruising, swollen ankles, unexplained medical scans, and daytime fatigue naturally raise questions.
Reiner concluded that greater transparency from the White House would help ease public concern. When Tapper asked whether others shared those worries, the response was clear: many viewers noticed the same thing.
