Donald Trump's new look goes viral as the internet asks - 'What is he wearing?'

Donald Trump has once again sparked a wave of online reactions this time over an unexpected wardrobe change.

His new winter outfit has gone viral after many noticed that the President appeared to take style cues from New York City’s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani. Over the weekend, Trump stepped out in a long black peacoat paired with a burgundy scarf, a notable shift from his usual dark suit and bright tie. The look spread quickly across social platforms, where users pointed out the similarities to Mamdani’s signature style.

The two recently met at the White House, where Trump reportedly told Mamdani he didn’t mind being called a “fascist” and even complimented him for pushing back against Republican attacks. Not long after that meeting, Trump was photographed heading toward Marine One wearing an outfit remarkably close to Mamdani’s typical winter attire.

Online reactions came fast. Journalist Aaron Rupar posted a clip of Trump walking in the dramatically long coat, and thousands chimed in with comments. One user simply asked, “What is he wearing?” Another joked, “Who wore it better?” Someone else remarked that the look made Trump resemble “a villain in a winter dystopia,” while others were stunned to see him break away from his trademark navy blazer–red tie combo.

A few found humor in the transformation, with one person writing, “Donald Trump in a red turtleneck looks like he’s ready to join a country club. Is this the start of a new fashion era?” Another added that he “seems to have taken a few fashion tips from Mamdani.”

Whether it was intentional or not, Trump’s sudden style shift has definitely captured attention and for once, the conversation isn’t about policy but peacoats.
